    Looks like Reiff is staying.

That’s good news, stability can only help.
I’m looking forward to the start of the season. There’s a lot of static surrounding so many things right now but sports, mainly football provide a lot of enjoyment for me and I’m not going to deprive myself. It’s definitely going to have a strange aura with empty stands.

Would be great to see Cook put together a quality, full season. Thielen’s going to face a ton of double coverage with Diggs being replaced by a rookie.
Can’t think of a better first game!

Let them double up on Thielen. I’d love to see if Jefferson is the real deal. If he’s one on one all the time we should see real quick what caliber of player he will be. I think Irv Smith has a real shot at having a big year also.

Agree Mahto, I sure hope he pans out. I was becoming a big Irv fan last year.

I just can’t believe it’s football season already. It’s been a LONG year but the summer still managed to fly by.

Week 1 is here! I see the NFC North as a two horse race between the Vikes and Packers. Vikings have a number of big question marks (CB, DT and OL), but I don’t think the Packers did much to improve in the offseason either. Bears have 2 QB’s which means they don’t have one, and the Lions are the Lions.

    MR. choke in big games!!!!

What about the playoff OT win at New Orleans? I realize its only one game but I wouldn’t call that effort and result another choke.

I see Detroit signed AP. We get to beat his a$$ twice this year!

The problem is that there really is no better options out there. I would rank Cousins ahead of about half the starting quarterbacks in the league (based on his raw stats) and ahead of all the backups. So unless you find someone better or draft someone (which could work out, or may not), there isn’t a solution. Drafting a QB used to be more of a ongoing project because they would often serve as an understudy to a veteran for a period of time before being thrown in there as the starter. Not really the case anymore.

A lot of people bitch and complain about poor QB play but they never offer any better alternative. Mostly because there isn’t a better alternative.

I think Kaepernick is still a free agent… doah

Football is the ultimate team game, the QB worship and blame is justified solely due to their contracts, but not any basis of what wins and loses games. There’s only one QB who has overwhelmingly positive stats in “big games” (usually regarded as playoff and MNF/SNF/TNF) and it’s Tom Brady, which is largely deserved but also a product of playing his career for Bill Belicheck. I know it’s impossible to convince Cousins haters, but he isn’t the problem. He’s a borderline top-10 QB, and when given protection is about as good as it gets in the NFL. I have 0 questions about Cousins heading into this year beyond if the offensive line can show some improvement.

And designed two completely different offenses for the two quarterbacks. Easier said than done.

I tend to agree with Bigwerm on this. Ive slowly become a Cousins fan. If he has time in the pocket hes pretty darn good. Is he the best? no, but as i said hes pretty good and with the way our team is constructed we don’t need 1 person to take over a game. In fact i think the Vikings have worked really hard to build a philosophy the opposite of what the Packers have done for years – have your superstar QB take over the game and be asked to do everything.

Im pretty excited to see what Kubiak can do for this offense this year. The big question mark for me, as always, will be the O-line. On the defense we better hope that those young cornerbacks can hold up and we can find someone to plug up the lanes on the D-line. Having Yanake in the fold now will help the cornerbacks out a lot.

P.S. Anyone who rips Cousins for not winning the big game after last years playoff performance is just a hater at this point. Simple as that. He proved he can win on the big stage in a hostile environment and it can be done with his arm.

Blows my mind how many people still hate Cousins. Despite having only 1 wide receiver for the majority of last year (a whiny one at that), depite having one of the worst O lines in the league, despite 3 maybe even 4 comeback wins AND a game winning drive in a playoff game…..Cousins still is a loser.

Vikings fans wouldn’t be happy with Joe Montana if we signed him in his prime. It’s a joke some of these fans.

    Cam Newton……doh’kay.

lighten up fellers…….i’m partially having some fun here, yea i’m not a cousins fan, his medicraty speaks for itself it big games. one game doesnt make him a hero.

i drink the purple koolaid like nobodies business…….. i hope he proves me wrong. i know the offensive line is less than steller which doesnt help.

Pro Foorball Focus has Cousins graded as the 8th best QB in the league….FWIW. Im a fan of Kirk…..best pro QB since Brett rode off into the sunset.

Take a look at the defensive performances in Washington (and in MN for that matter) in those playoff games. That’s the telling stat that debunks Kirk’s so called “inability” to win a big game. Tough to win big games when your D is giving up TD’s in almost every possession in the second half. He can thank Fred Smoot and Josh Norman for that!

I understand having some fun with it, but Vikings fans are literally the worst. They beg for something, and when they finally get what they want, they turn on it and start complaining all over again. As a transplant who has since joined the Vikings fandome, it annoys the hell out of me.

I’ve never been too concerned with Cousins, it does goes up and down like the market though. A massive contract will always spawn a debate, see Joe Mauer,Parise etc…

A smothering defense can make a qb look pretty good too. When they’re in a groove as a team Cousins is just fine.

Sunday cant get here soon enough!

He definitely needs good offensive line play. And they are going to get a big test this weekend. roll

I agree that Cousins is a pretty good QB when the O-line plays well. The knock against him is he’s bad when the line plays poorly and he can’t improvise. I think that’s the biggest knock against him compared to better QBs is he doesn’t have that play making ability when he’s pressured.

While this is true, I think he improved with that a lot last year. There is a video out there somewhere (don’t have time to find it now) of all of Cousins’ throws while under pressure. It was pretty ridiculous how many completions and completions for large gains he made with people either in his face or all over him. There’s only so much you can do when the whole interior defensive line is on top of you after your second step back. Unless you’re Lamar or Mahomes that is…..

Running backs get hurt more often than any other positional player. Not uncommon at all.

Mattison will get used regularly no doubt about it.
