Rumor or truth heard Vick is here in MN right now working out? Anyone else hear this?

I don’t envy anyone having the job of scrounging for a QB to try to salvage something out of this season. It’s hard to imagine a worse position to be in, having a #1 QB go down without even taking a single snap in the regular season.

I wish I could put buy into the positive spin of “it’s just one player”. Fact it that it’s the starting QB. So calling Bridgewater “just one player” is like saying that a tiger is “just a cat”.

Can’t blame the Vikes management for looking at all options, with or without baggage.

Not true, according to the Star Tribune

I’d also say no thanks to Vick. Leaving off-field stuff where it is, he looked terrible with the Steelers last year, I’d say he’s cooked. Just about anyone else, please.

The QB position might be the most difficult of all sports to find great talent. Even those taken high in the first round are hit or miss. If a team is lucky enough to find a “franchise” QB, well, he better stay healthy because the drop-off in talent to the backup is steep. It must be a combination of not enough available talent and salary as to why there isn’t more emphasis put on the backup.
Losing that one player completely alters the season.

No sense bringing them all in now. There will be more cuts and trades available in the upcoming days.

Besides, the burning sports question in the twin cities is can the Twins lose the rest of their games. Nice streak they have going right now. Interesting how everyone is in hiding and no movement on the new hires. Pitifull, absolutely pitifull. frown

I like it Jeff! Not much left in the tank but it would be an interesting season.

If he has as much left in the tank as Favre did (his best season ever in Purple) I will take him !!!

OMG! we gave up a 1st and a 4th!!! Horrible deal! he doesn’t even know the playbook! Pat Shurman was his OC so that should help and the eagles are eating a lot of his signing bonus but still. too much in my opinion!

If he stays healthy–is everything and more Bridgewater was going to be.

Agree that this puts us back in the contention talks and no one is denying Bradford has talent in his arm (or had) but the guy has been in the league long-enough to show that he is not a winner and he has not succeeded. I like that I can talk about the Vikings again with some excitement about the possibilities of this year and winning but im not happy about giving up a 1st for an overpaid lump. Bradford is making 20M a year! how are we going to pay for contracts that are coming up like Rhodes, Kalil (if we choose to resign him), and Floyd with a lump of coal hogging 20M I salary. I still love Speilman and think he is a great GM but you don’t give up a 1st rd pick in football for anything less than a transcendent talent. And all I see Bradford being is a stop gap on the way to a 10 win season if all goes well with him – and that’s if he can manage to learn the playbook and we don’t lose all the games that Hill has to start while he develops in our system.

Bradford was on terrible teams hard to gauge his ability with crap around him. The first round pic the vikes give up is likely a 20 to 32 pic. Not a big deal at all. The eagles basically paid 11M for an additional 1st round pic.
The vikes have enough young talent and 2 3rds and 2 4ths in next year’s draft they didn’t mortgage anything to do this deal.
Is Bradford a superstar? No, but he is certainly more capable than anyone in the active roster now. Vikes are trying to win now and not wait and hope teddy comes back next year.

Plus they do not know if they will have Teddy for next year. Win the division so I do not have to listen to the Green bay folk at work. )

Bradford is a decent QB but that is about it. I still don’t think Teddy was the answer either, was he capable, yes but he surely was/is not a top 10 in the league and that is what is usually needed to make it to the Superbowl.

They could of done worse and brought in Tebow or Vick.

This coming from a fan of the 2nd place team in the Central last season! Classic! (Oh and ask a Baltimore fan about if you need a good quarterback to win a SB. You don’t…)

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I thought the same thing, yes they gave up a 1st and a 4th round pick, but it looks to me like that was balanced against a desire not to just throw in the towel on this season and maybe next season as well. There’s no telling when Teddy will be back and that still leaves the “what if” scenario of a re-injury or a different injury putting him on the sidelines again.

It’s going to be a bumpy ride for 2-3 weeks here, hopefully the vikes can figure out how to win even though it will mean winning ugly.

Have to say this puts a new spin on week 2 and the first reg season home game vs the Pack. It was already going to be a playoff like atmosphere and no doubt the Pack is going to be out to throw down a marker with a NFC north rival win, now it just gets that much more interesting with a new QB at the helm.

If the pACKers could just catch a break.

I mean, first they had to prepare for an old career backup QB, now they have to prepare for a 1st round bust that has had a whole two weeks to learn the offense.

    What next?

And just think, in 6 years or so they’ll have to start looking for their third hall of fame QB in a row.

Even after removing my purple tinted glasses and setting down the purple kool-aid, I’m gonna stick my neck out and say that this was an excellent, calculated, bet by the vikings FO. As others have stated, Bradford has played on horrible teams and that, along with his injuries (the only real, and totally warranted knock on him), has led to him having sub-par numbers for his career (which are pretty much equivalent to Teddy’s numbers by the way). But watching his tape, he is actually much more suited to the Air Coryell offense under Norv than Teddy, and it would not shock me at all if he had the best season of his career this year. We’ve had something like nine first round picks in the past 4 years or something, this team is full of talent and they aren’t getting younger. This isn’t a team full of expiring veterans on their last hurrah (e.g. 2009), selling a first and fourth on this guy isn’t gonna have a huge impact on the future unless you planned on entering a rebuild in the next 2-3 years. All I can say is that this is a massive upgrade from Shaun Hill, and spares us the embarrassment of a Sanchez or Kaepernick. Of course he could get injured and then it’s a total bust, but with the team we have right now, I’m all for rolling the dice.

And Rodgers will be a Viking and have his best statistical season. Seems typical for former Packer QBs.
