Tick tock. 11 days. Could be a bust for opener along the river. Prescott could even be shut down if ice is flowing.

I have a bet that I will be still picking mushrooms in June.. In Washington County.. And feel pretty strong about that at this point. Crazy…
I don’t mind waiting till mid May to beat up the St Croix walleyes but floating ice will encourage me not to wait. I would hope ice on that water means tuna season is still shut down. That alone is worth a trip to the Croix.

April 19, 2018 at 7:59 am #1769146To expand on Suzuki’s pics. Here’s some pics I took this Morning from the North end of Prescott. The river is still locked up pretty tight and the ice doesn’t look horrible. On a plus side the river is open on the MN side from Stillwater almost to the power plant

April 24, 2018 at 9:15 am #1770107It was the same when I was there Sunday and Monday. I’ll be there tomorrow again and snap some new pics
April 24, 2018 at 9:15 am #1770109I will try to get some pictures as we get closer. I know the water is up about 3 feet now and the main sheets had some big fault lines/cracks that were opening and closing. Should start to break up a bit today if we get some wind.
April 25, 2018 at 8:58 pm #1770521I know the owners of Leo’s Landing and they posted a few pics from their boat this evening cruising in the bay.

April 26, 2018 at 7:07 am #1770564As of this morning, there is still some ice between Hudson and Afton. Hopefully, its gone before Saturday.

They just mentioned there was still 10-12” out there. Didn’t go any further than what you can see in the pics.
April 27, 2018 at 7:49 am #1770822Yesterday the ice broke up from Prescott North as far as I could see. There was quite the ice jam at the bridge in Prescott around 7:30 pm last night but it should be cleared out by today. Here’s this mornings pics

April 27, 2018 at 8:17 am #1770832Jon, she will be no wake for a bit yet.
I went through Afton yesterday and checked the catfish/windmill area. The north side of Catfish was still iced up but south of catfish is clear down past Black Bass. There looked to be a lot of ice by the state park yet. So not sure how the drive down from Afton to Kinni would be. It was pretty dark ice out there and would assume there is a good chance it could move out by tomorrow. I will post pictures in a bit.
April 27, 2018 at 10:13 am #1770846Here is a photo looking north to catfish and the south from the pirate ship. The pictures kind of suck but you can see the ice. It was favoring the WI shoreline last night.
It sounds like everything from the Kinni south was ice free now. There will be a lot of ice flowing through yet but if you ask me I think we are in ok shape. The ice should move out quick once it breaks up a bit more today. I hope so anyway.
