    Today is Vietnam Veterans Day.

This is a rock solid group of people who faced seemingly endless challenges. Their efforts greatly reformed, upgraded, and modernized aspects of things like battlefield medicine, smaller unit tactics, and counter-guerrilla warfare.

They unfortunately weren’t very appreciated at the time but in my experiences they made this country a better place for future generations who would return from foreign conflicts.

We lost many good troops there and many more came home missing parts of body, mind, and soul. Their sacrifices should be appreciated by us all every day. It’s very somber even typing this knowing what they went through. But regardless of the situation, they did their job well and deserve our respect.

I’ve told the story on this site several times about how Vietnam vets especially made a great effort to welcome us back from Iraq, waiting at airports to shake our hands and welcome us home, thanking us for our service. They wanted to make sure it was done right, and I will never, ever forget that.

Thank you to all Vietnam War veterans and the families that made sacrifices as well.

I read a lot about Vietnam in high school. It was very intriguing to me.

Thank you to any Vietnam vets we have here on IDO! applause

We visited the memorial in D.C. a few years ago, and it literally brought me to tears.

My dad’s dad was an artillery man on an escort vessel in the Pacific. My mom’s dad was a marine in Korea. My dad was a navy fireman in Da Nang.

I can tell you that the reason I continue to honor their service long after its over is because they continue to bear their service long after its over.

I bow bow bow to them

For many, the ravages of that war are still being waged. Thanks is not enough.

Dan, I”m so glad we, Vietnam Vets, gave you the welcoming home you deserved to get. When I returned from Vietnam in 1969 I was more than a little surprised by what we didn’t get. I guess that’s why when I returned to college I hung around with Vietnam Vets.

I can assure you that most Vietnam Vets appreciate the thank you posts. We had a job to do and we did it well. Most of us would do it again at a moment’s notice.

Thank you for your service. I never understood why Vietnam Vets did not receive the welcome home they deserved for their service.

I just lost a very good friend to cancer from agent orange that he was exposed to in Vietnam.

It’s hard to fathom being a senior in high school and having the draft waiting for you on the horizon.

America hasn’t always done a great job of learning from her mistakes but there’s been a collective vow to never treat vets like that again.
