The New Year is young, but it’s already produced one of the best waterfowl hunting videos I’ve seen in a decade. The videography is first-rate––awesome slow-motion aerial shots of Manitoba’s prairie country made dark by insane masses of ducks, snow geese and Sandhill cranes––but it’s the passion that leaps off the screen that makes this destination spotlight on Birdtail Waterfowl special.
“I guess it’s been my obsession,” says owner/operator Paul Conchatre when asked to describe Birdtail Waterfowl, the legendary hunting lodge he built with equal parts sweat and vision.
“You’re shooting your limits of birds all the time, yeah that’s important, but it’s only a fraction of what I want to do and what we’re going to explore,” Conchatre says. “We’re going to work hard to get to the limits but it’s also to see that dreamy site, because its Manitoba––we have it. It’s a waterfowler’s paradise. We’ll go as hard as we can go to get you to that hunt that you’ve always dreamed off.”
