Vexilar Questions

Hi all, I have a few questions that I was hoping I could get answered about my FL-18 Vexilar. First, the digital depth finder/battery indicator. When I get to a new spot and am gauging depth, the depth the DD100 reads changes as I adjust the range on the unit. I thought the depth reader would give a depth regardless of the range. Next, I commonly fish with someone who has a FL20 and we seem to have interference issues regardless of the frequency we change to. Lastly, I was fishing in about 115 FOW this weekend. The unit would pick up my lure sporadically and hardly at all if I wasn’t jigging it, with a lot of other clutter on the screen. This was with the gain nearly all the way up. Thought I would finally get on here and try to get this figured out. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Where were you fishing? Any body of water with a possible current could sweep your lure to the side and make it tough to read on sonar. I had similar issues fishing Superior this season in 80 FOW.

Re: 110fow and not seeing a lure.

What cone angle is on your fl18? I know on my FL12 that around 60 feet I lose my lure. That’s with a 20 degree transducer. Fishing as deep as you are I would guess a 9 degree would help.

Upgraded to an FL22 and notice a real difference picking out my lure at depths. The difference hits when I switch from the 20-12-9 degree on the Tri-beam ducer. Deeper it is, the smaller cone angle I use.

Sorry, I’ve never come close to 100fow so I don’t have first hand knowledge.
