Wondering who owns or has used the flx28 AND the flx20?…..curious as to opinions on which flasher they actually prefer. tia.
I have 20, buddy has 28. Major difference I’ve noticed is much brighter/sharper “screen” on 28
Much much quieter too. I like my dual beam ducer on my 20 though.
The ten foot scale makes it much easier to read as oppose to the old 20 foot. The more space you can spread it out the better definition. The face is less cluttered without all the range scales on it, so it’s much cleaner looking. The noise reduction is also really nice. I actually don’t mind the pro view as much as most, a lot of dislike for it. I don’t mind the narrow cone angle.
Looking at a pic of one, I think the FLX-20(new style like the 28) does have the 10 foot scale also like the FLX-28. The older FL-20 did not.
Oops, I didn’t realize you said FLX-20. I was referring to the old FL-20.
I’ve got a 28 and a good buddy has the FLX20. Between those two, it’s honestly a toss up now. They are both just as clear and have VERY similar features. The new FLX20 is a major step forward for the 20 units. That being said, I like my 28 and don’t regret the decision one bit.
The 28 works well at holding my boat in place, the 20 is more like a windsock.
Now my Marcum on the other hand…..
I was also using the old FL-20 when referencing the differences in the two. That being said I have no complaints with the 28, although you can’t really go wrong with either.
I currently have the 28 with a proview ducer. The difference in sensitivity and interference rejection is very noticeable compared to the 20.

I’m in that boat with you
I have a question for Marcum guys. Now I’m not trying to start fight here. If the LX models are such an advancement in technology why do they still sell mechanical flashers? Don’t most companies stop selling what they consider old after a few years, but instead Marcum doubled down and revamped their mechanical to keep up with Vexilar. Again I’m not trying to start a huge Vex Marcum fight, I’m really curious why they just didn’t go all digital. Because by using the “for a couple bucks more you could have the LX model over a Vex”, wouldn’t that same logic apply to their own line?

You would probably have to ask the company that question. Not sure the consumer base can provide you anything but conjecture and opinions
You’re all neanderthals with 1970s technology, upgrade your ice life to graphs and never look back.
Lol
I think the big difference between the FL20 vs FL28 is the additional colors on the 28 along with the circular shade around it. The combination of those two things makes the original 28 easier to see/read than the original 20. It’s most obvious on those 40 degree late ice days when you’re hole hopping outside with a sunny sky and snow covered ice.
I’ve been using a FL20 for the past 3 years and my buddy has a FL28. I just got a FL28 over the summer that I’m mounting on a lithium shuttle.

it’s easy for me to read.

I don’t believe Vexilar even makes a true Digital unit yet….and Marcum has had them for many years now. IMO it is crazy Vex does not come out with with something that can compete with the overall functionality of the Marcum LX Series, or maybe they don’t have the ability to? Whatever the reason it is a mystery to me…they are such a household name and dominated the “old technology” business for years. I will say that the LX capability to add new features just by downloading software versions for free may hinder future Marcum sales (buy it once and use it forever) and they have to come out with ancillary products like the Lithium Shuttle (which I love BTW) in order to boost sales of new products. I suppose at some point the LX Software will get so complex it will require a faster processor, more RAM, new Video Controller, etc so a new “XX” will be required…but we’ll see. To me it is a one horse race right now and it would be nice if Vex could catch up and push the envelope for both a little faster.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to place another order as I am running low on paper. Yes, I still have one. (sitting on a shelf somewhere)
