Vexilar Lithium

I am assuming the Vexilar lithium batteries are new this season. I did see that they are Lithium Ion verse the lifepo4.
Any idea if these can still be charged with the standard vex charger and what are the main differences in cold weather between the two cell styles?

    I’d contact the manufacturer.

Google “the differences between Lithium vs lifepo4” lot of info out there.

They are LifePo4,and can be discharged down to -20F.But like others, they must be charged above 32F.

I probably should have just googled it. I am guessing no one has used the vex batteries

I have been using them (at least very close first prototype version of them) for a couple winters. It uses a different charger and lithium ion is “more betterer” in extreme temps than Lifepo4.

I haven’t done a true comparison test to other brands so I can’t speak to that. But I do also have a Amped Outdoors battery (which is Lifepo4) and like that one and my vexilar one. Both preformed just fine and I do most my fishing outside of a house in whatever temps it is when I have the free time to fish ha

Sorry for the non-technical analysis lol.

Thanks for the reply man. I know you are the guy I was hoping for a response from since you have talked about batteries before

I seen these for sale at LxM supply. I believe they said 9 amp hours, and was wondering how they would compare to a Dakota lithium.

That was sort of my though compared to amped and now the brute which 10ah but the vex batteries are 59 at Scheels so seems like it might be worth the shot

If by “standard vex charger” you mean the original sealed-lead acid battery charger that came with many models, like the flx28, then no you cannot and should not try to use it on a lithium battery. I attached a photo of one of mine, and it has an output of 13.5 volts at 1amp, which is not safe for lithium batteries.

You have it backwards. Lifepo4 are better in colder temps than lithium ion. Lithium ion are what they use in cell phones… we have all seen our battery go from full to dead in the cold real quick.

The batteries are confusing as well since they say lifepo but then also lithium ion

Hi Tom. I am getting conflicting information regarding trying to charge a lithium battery with a conventional Vexilar charger. Vexilar says this is OK as long as you disconnect once the battery is charged (don’t leave it on the charger for a long time). According to your post, you do not recommend this?

Vexilar sells their new lithium battery with the same V410 charger that is used for regular lead batteries.

Below is what I posted in the ice forum:

Until more information is available, my advice is that it depends on which lithium you are using. The V410 is a lead acid battery charger which was not designed specifically for lithium batteries. Apparently, the circuitry in the Vexilar lithium is designed to be compatible with the v410. I cannot say how it works with the circuitry on other lithium batteries, but I do not plan to use the v410 on any lithium other than the Vexilar battery until more information is available.
I tried to embed a link to a Vexilar youtube video that discusses some of this.

One thing I note from the video is that the representative for Vexilar makes it very clear not to leave the v410 plugged into the lithium battery long term.

I suggest finding a charger that shuts off automatically when charging lithium.
