Vexilar FLX Flashers

So are the FLX(12,20 or 28) brushless units a lot quieter than the Buzzing/whirring/annoying original Vexilars? Hows the reliability been on these new FLXs? I know the 28s have been out for a few years, so those should of been put to the test for awhile now.

Anyone specifically use a new FLX 12 unit last year, any issues or things you loved about it.
    Thanks.

A guy I fish open water with just started getting into ice fishing last and got one by accident. Thought he ordered a 28, but got the 12 instead. Didn’t feel like sending it back and risking not having anything so he kept it. It is very similiar to the old 12 except a lot quieter. It also has a less cluttered dial with the new set up.

As far as reliability goes you can’t really beat them. I have had my fall off the snowmobile quite a bit. Before that it was bouncing around in the shack while being towed.

I got the 28 last season to replace my 18. The noise was significantly quieter and made for more pleasant time on the ice. The screen brightness was also a huge deal. For me the best part was the auto ranging. I never needed to adjust the dials.

First before this turns into a Vex-
/Marcum debate, all the new locators are quality units. With that said I love my FLX 28. I’ve had it for 2 or 3 years, got it the first year they came out. After finally learning how to adjust the different color palettes and power modes I’m very pleased with what I’m able to interpret with it. It’s very quiet and the screen is great in direct sunlight. The Auto mode is nice if your sitting still, but not for hole hopping. Love the Weed mode and Low Power. The Proveiw has a lot of power, almost to much. If you learn how to use the gain it works great.

Could you explain why you don’t use auto range for hole hopping? I got a 28 over the summer and I am chomping at the bit to use it!

There is a delay in the unit to auto-range and it sometimes will bounce from 300′ to the correct depth range when hole hopping.

The FLX-28 is the best flasher I’ve not only owned, but used. The battery life is incredible and it has all the features I could ask for. Infinitely adjustable zoom would be nice, be it really isn’t that big of a deal, like so many of the “other” guys tout.

As Merican Eagle stated there is a 3 second delay in the Auto Range. When hole hopping it gets kind of irritating. In manual mode it works fine.
