Been in the market to up grade and really have this unit in mind. Does anybody have real life reviews. Is it a good choice?

This will be my 3rd winter with it. Love having the zoom and the regular flasher both on at the same time. Also Vexilar bullet proof. If you want a Vex this is the unit in my opinion BC. waytogo

What would you be upgrading from?
I have fished the 28 and for the price point I would much rather have my helix 7. I just don’t think it is worth it, guys talk about the zoom and the different modes but I just don’t think my friends and even my times fishing with 28 justify the extra 350-400 over my flx 12.
If you want to upgrade you want newer tech. Having a unit with gps and 2d and flasher mode is really nice. 2d sonar will really grow on you.
Just my opinion. When early ice hits I would be more than happy to sync up and have you try the 28 and helix before you buy.

I sold my lx 5 and 3, I have my garmin still but need another unit. I’m buying a second hand FL 18 from a guy and want to add one more and thinking the 28 will be it.
I dont prefer jigging under my garmin, I like the marcum better. But im done with marcums cs

I just bought the flx 28 w lithium battery from Thorne bros. So it’ll be added to the never ending collection.
I think I’ll gift it to the woman for x mas.
And that’s how we all win.

I’m the worst present giver in the world. Unless your a outdoors person. Last year she got a bad ass float suit. That way she can’t complain about the cold

I like my 28, coming from an 18. Expensive as hell but I don’t need a 100 amp battery to run it or a 2 wheeler to carry it like those combo guys. It’s all personal choice and what you need it to do. Experienced people can use any unit.

After having an Vexilar 12,18,22hd,and a 28 I am now the proud owner of Helix 7’s. The extra functionality and screen options made it a no brainer for me a few years ago. I don’t miss the Vexilars one bit…

I have two flx 28 and picking up a flx30 this season. My style of ice fishing is hole hopping. I don’t ever carry a shelter. I’ve had the Helix and Marcum 7, sold them due to the simplicity of the flx28….and it fits in a 5 gal bucket )

I dont like the helix. I’m not much of a bird guy at all. I’ll map with garmin and jig with the vex

my god they still want $400 for a FL-18!!!? When did that come out like 1998? Not knocking the unit at all. I wish i had one for myself to replace my Marcum. Just a little sticker shocked

I want to say I got mine second hand for like $200-250, keep an eye out and you can find them. FL8’s still go for the $150 range, just goes to show how indestructible they are I guess
