Anyone own one of these? Looking to upgrade from an old fl 8. Fish alot of panfish and walleye never have I fished in over 40 feet of water that is why this unit looks good to me. Any thoughts?

Suspended crappies how does this unit compare to others for that application?

I have had the FL8, Fl18, FL20 and just upgraded to the FLX28.
The twenty was the best except I have not had the 28 out on the lake yet. The 20 does great on suspended crappies as does the 18. It seems to have better IR settings and better separation of targets and of course the flat screen is the cats meow!

Depends on how much the fl22 is , normally $500 already. I would rather just get the flx28. I only paid $525 out the door for my flx28 pro pack.

Had a 22 for a couple years. Great unit, just upgraded to a LX7 this year.

It’s the best unit vexilar makes for shallow water. There is a reason they brought it back after discontinuing it. I have a 22, 28, and lx7. Can’t beat the 22 in shallow. Of course this is my opinion.

Is the 22 a 12 degree transducer? That’s my favorite.

Yea it is a 12 I’ve used a 19 degree never used a 12 degree transducer. Is there much of a difference or not really??

I haven’t used it enough to answer that. I have yet to set it on the ice.

I can tell you it’s terrible in shallow water. Hopefully this software update coming in January will change that.

I don’t fish shallow very often at all, so it’s not a big problem for me, and I have a Lowrance elite 4 that rocks in shallow water.

You’ll appreciate the difference when you move to the 12. Less interference and a good clean signal.

I went from a tri-beam to the proview on my 22, and had really good luck using that.

I like my 22 a lot. Went from the old tri-beam (hated it because it was cracked), to the proview, and now I’m back to the tribeam (they sent me a new one) which I personally like better. Which means my FL8 has a proview on it.

Yes.. there will be a difference. Although some will say narrow cone is better in shallow. Ime I disagree. I was fishing in 10 fow and my lx7 marked more fish with the 20° while my flx28 didn’t mark much. My daughter, 10 year old…. caught more fish because she was marking them. I missed left and right…but it could be because I am old..

Three seasons on my FL 22 and tri-beam and still have my fl-8.

Pros – One of the main reasons I bought it was that I never fished deeper than 40. I liked the fact I could do 10 foot increments. I also like the 6ft bottom lock when fishing walleyes. Combining the low power setting with the widest ducer setting has come in very handy a couple times. Tri-beam ducer gives really good flexibility.

Overall I’ve been pretty happy but there’s been a couple quirks. Sometimes when hole hopping it doesn’t display correctly when dropping into a new hole. Power cycling fixes it but the old FL-8 never wavered. Original tri-beam had warranty issues. Vex sent a replacement pronto. When having a end of life battery I’ve had some weird readings that cost me a few fish.

I toyed with replacing it at the end of last season. Interested to see what all the Marcum fuss is about. At the end of the day I’m happy enough with it to keep it around for another year(if it ever gets started)

One actual dislike and not a quirk. Does anyone else have issues seeing the flat screen on a sunny day? I have to face it away from the sun and often that puts the wind in my face

Dimming setting is great at night on the other side of the coin.

I wish Vex or somebody came out with a sheild for the Vex 12-20 etc for those bright days.
