They all pretty much do the same thing. It’s not the brand that matters, it’s how you use it. Pick the one with the features you like at a price you can afford and take the time to learn how to use it.

so do cars/trucks. is that the same attitude you took when buying one?
since the number is bigger, I would assume it is better.
The FL18 should be 6 better than the FL12.
The FLX28 should be 16 better than the 12, and 16 is a lot to be better by. Seems like a no-brainer.
Fl12?
Yes I got the one with the features I wanted. It has wheels and a engine just like the rest.

After all the responses I’m leaning towards the Fl 20Lean harder.
If you’re thinking fl20, I’d consider the flx28. I love mine. I’ve had a fl8, fl18, lx5, ice55, fl22 and lx7 so far. The 28 has been a sweet tool, close second would be the lx5.
Reeds has the 28 in the genz pack for 549. I would take that over a 20 in a ulta pack any day of the week.
I have had my Fl-18 for about fifteen years and it still runs the same as the day I got it. Been thinking of trying a marcum or bird, but there is nothing I need that the vex does not give me. I am amazed how I literally have not replaced a thing on it besides batteries all this time, dont even want to guess how many hours I have on it, heavy use to say the least. It will be tough for me to go another route when the time does come.
One think to consider is the transducer, I recently got the proview transducer for my FL12 at that has made a huge difference in the performance. much more robust to interference and nice crisp readings from it
to keep it simple look at the vexilar models like this.
FL-8 basic entry level unit no special features. 19 degree transducer.
FL-12 basically a flat screen version of the FL-8. 12 degree transducer.
FL-18 mid range model has 6 foot zoom (bottom 6 feet of the lake), Bottom lock (used in summer when in a boat). low power mode. 12 degree or pro view transducer.
FL-20 Flat screen version of the FL-18 adds night and day brightness setting to the unit. also adds a 12 foot zoom option. low power mode. 12 degree or pro view transducer.
FL-22 Specialized unit. limited to a max depth of 60 feet(10 foot increments). has a 6 & 12 foot zoom option, day and night brightness option. low power mode. 12 degree transducer (was discontinued but may have been brought back, I would need to check with my contact at vexilar). also has bottom lock for boat use in the summer.
FLX-28 top of the line model. five color platte options, weed mode, low power mode, zoom mode, day and night brightness options. auto depth setting or manual depth setting. 20 levels of interference rejection, all other Vexilar models only have 10 levels of rejection. 12 degree or pro view transducer.
the fl12 also has low power mode which makes it a huge upgrade over the 8.
