Vex Charger and Generator

On our last trip to Rainy I brought a shiny new Helix. To run it I grabbed my Genz box with 500ma charger and normal 12v battery. Here’s the odd part. When I plugged the charger into the generator, nothing, nada, zip. Charger worked before the trip to top off the battery, on a wall outlet. Worked great again on wall power when we returned. I’m stumped???

Tech specs:
Generator: Elemax 1000 (off brand but uses Honda motors)
Power: 500 watts at eco mode
110 volts @ 60 hertz
Said something about a square wave
Charger says 110 and 60 hertz too so that matches up

Odd part, we’ve used multiple different chargers for boat batteries with no issues. I know one is an older model Schumacher and one we bought only a year ago. Not sure what’s different about this little charger that doesn’t like the generator.

Assuming you’re talking about the generator. That appeared to be working, it delivered power just fine to our portable Schumacher charger.

I had an elcheapo 500ma charger do the same thing you describe. It would not work on an cheap generator but would work in the wall of a home.
I did not try the charger on a pure sine wave inverter generator to know if that was the issue.
