That was an awesome episode. I expect Joe will get some business out of that, possibly from me.

How is Joe rigging the tube? Solid wire, etc.

They come pre rigged. It’s just a Red October Monster Tube mid-depth. Only mod is the addition of the Colorado blade on the back.

Always fun to watch the fall musky episodes, another great one there. Any chance you guys can continue to provide the stuff that would have gotten sent to Fox on Youtube?

I’ve never fished for muskie, but that’s the type of episode that would make me consider it! That was awesome to see.

OK James I see what you mean about this episode NOT being T-shirt weather. It looked cold, but fish like that have a way of warming a guy up. Fun show!

Pat- Do you have any recommendations for rods/actions for this type of fishing. It looked like Joes rod was really loading up, even on the smaller fish? Like you I haven’t done much vertical jigging for muskies but it looks really fun as others have stated. It looked like the boat control piece was tedious. Would the heavier model of tube worked? Also it was interesting watching your jigging cadence. It looked like you were barely moving those baits?

    Great video.

Would this tactic work all season or just the fall?

I assume pre-Covid Pat would have had time to edit this to show he caught more fish.

    Alas.

    Great episode

Sure does. At the same time it’s better when conditions mean that the fish are concentrated on certain spots since you’re not covering as much ground looking for active fish. Late fall is one of those times.

And if you really want your mind blown, watch it on Panoptix…

I wouldn’t go heavier with the tube. That would affect the fall rate of the bait. I used the same rod that I use for just about everything. 9’3 XH Okuma SCT Musky rod. I believe Joe was using a 9′ XH rod as well.

The most important part with the jigging seemed to be not overworking the bait, and letting the bait fall on a tight line so that you can detect the bites.

Unfortunately I got schooled by Joe. I actually felt very fortunate that he was willing to share the bite and was pretty fired up to have that many fish in the boat regardless of who caught them. Filming musky shows is hard. It’s double the fun when it all comes together while filming.

Thanks Pat! It was a great show, probably as you anticipated. There’s something about a jigging bite I have always liked even with walleyes. But to do that with muskies must have been special. Next time will be your turn to do the schooling!

    Great show!
Just what I needed, another $24 musky bait of which I will undoubtedly order 3 of. Hope my stimulus check arrives soon.
