Finally booked a musky trip to Vermillion in late July for my son and I. We will be on the West side. Any tips for a rookie? Not asking GPS spots or anything like that just maybe go to colors or good techniques to shorten the learning curve on a big body of water.

When I fish muskies up there is no different then around the metro. Black bucktails, copper color, some greens. Fish structure, points, islands….etc.

    You staying at a resort?

Not sure if they still serve breakfast…..if they do it’s damn good.

depending how many days your staying, I would fish any structure in the bay where your at all the way out to wakemup. If something you see looks good, hit it again the AM and PM hours.

Other days hit another big bay and fish that, I is how I learned is to focus on one area vs, driving to to hit X and Y and Z spots cause on the map it looks good.

Be careful fishing at night…..other boaters with no lights….

Someone reminded me when I was a rookie headed that direction the first time that Vermilion is spelled with one “L” up there not with two L’s like the river by where I grew up in Southern Minnesota.

It doesn’t matter – you will have one “L” of a good time up there… beautiful country and great fishing. Enjoy!

NO lights? Is it a real concern?

I have my head on a swivel at night, there are a select few. DNR has been trying to crack down on it from time to time.

Stop at spring bay if you feel the need to pick up a bait or 2. Steve will have plenty of stories about fishing at night if he is around.
