ive never fished Vermillion but its on my bucket list. i was reading through the rookie thread and got some good feedback there but i didn’t want to hi jack that thread with this question. Im cheap and not the resort type. What are some recommended campgrounds where you can bring a boat and pitch a tent around Vermillion. Im thinking the east side.

Eventually i would like to explore some of the less populated areas of Vermillion but to start out i suppose ill go to the east side. That seems to be where most guys go and where the most information on the lake can be found.

    Thanks

just booked a campsite at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park for 4 days. earliest i could get for that long was September 15th-19th. No idea how fishing is during that time but i have lots of time to research. Looks like there is no cancellation fee if i change plans 14+ days in advance. I just wanted to get something in the books. Excited to fish Vermilion for the first time!

Nice, I’ve been wanting to check out the new park. Last time I was there we camped on Hinsdale Island which was cool, but not the best spots for parking the boat overnight as it’s all rocks.

Great news. Not sure what you plan to fish for. I got this one last Aug about 3/4 of a mile from this park.

I fish the area around the state park 90 percent of the time. I wandered off the path 2 times last year and did the west side. Ill be sticking to the east.
There are tons of free camp sites up there. The state park is beautiful but when we drove through they really packed people in there.
Tons of fun things to do in the area as well

All of the state forest is free camping. Just boat right in. No paying any one. And you would be surprised how nice of spots others have created

I’ll be at the state park in early July for the first time on the lake. Can report back on what we find

They are first come first serve, but there are free campsites on several islands and the Superior National Forest shoreline on the north side.

Thanks guys. What do you tie up your boat with typically? just a rope to a tree?

assuming they don’t have docks or sandy beaches everywhere do you bring tires with or anything to prevent your boat slamming against the rocks at night?

Crappie, if you have time take the tour through the Soudan mine.

We stay at the casino on the SE side of the lake. No frills but elec. And you can use the pool- shower facilities because you are considered a guest. Plus they have their own boat ramps right there.

I find soft bottom area and beach my boat. Thats also why I don’t camp on islands out there. Never a good place to tie off to.
It’s a beautiful lake and area.
Like epg said the soudan mine tour is really cool and good family time. Benchwarmers has decent food and a ice cream shop, the old Town Cafe has good cheap breakfast. If your at the state park all of that is close by

Thanks Ron! And thanks EPG I’ll try to make some time for that. Judging by the 20 or so fishing reports I’ve read today sounds like fishing can be very hit or miss so I may have some time 🙂

The lake is always hit or miss. If you find fish in the same area for more then 3 days it’s like winning on a scratch off. It can happen but I notice they roam and roam out there. Smallie fishing is always great and big pike and musky are bonus

    Bringing this one back…

Staying at the state park last week of Sept. May do guide one day to shorten the learning curve. Any recommendations?

Hope we can have campfires by then. Still stoked!
