28 to 30 is the big jump; 30 uses a different transducer and therefor can do different things the others can’t, better things. 28 uses the same transducer as the 8 and 18, just the display that’s different. I assume the 38 is basically the 30 with adjustable zoom

Don’t get me wrong, the 30 is a solid unit. I guess where I was getting at is that the jump to a 38 from a 28 is bigger than going to a 30 from a 28 or a 38 from a 30.

FL 8 12 18 20 22 and 28 all use the same transducers. They can use the proview aka 9 degree, or 12 or 19 degree or discontinued dual and tri beam ducers. The 30 uses a completely different transducer that isn’t compatible with the others
