I stumbled on this. New line of rotomolded boats by Lund. It seems like it’s going after the younger market who can’t afford today’s boats and just need something small and lightweight to get out on the water and tow behind their small SUV. This is where 12-14 foot aluminum boats used to be, but I’m guessing these plastic boats are now cheaper than aluminum. Simple, electric outboards. This is for the young people who want to upgrade out of their kayaks and paddleboards. Starter boat.

Will be interesting to see what other models they add. Did anyone see these at the boat or Sports show?

At that price point, why would one not just buy a 14 foot SSV or Fury?

After more thought, I’m guessing this is geared more towards the coastal waters as a replacement for the Boston Whaler type of boats. Lund probably wants a piece of that huge market. I bet they eventually release larger center console models.

I’d be embarrassed to pay (much less ask) $12 for that…

Knowing what Brunswick invested into this project from inception, I actually laughed when I found out this is what the project came to fruition as.

Side Question. I’d be curious if people here think a fiberglass boat (tiller) in the 17’ range with bare bones features (think Lund Alaskan) priced around $25,000 with 70HP motor would be a high demand product?

I foresee the large expensive Ranger 622’s and Warrior V238’s to see a slow down in sales. I wonder if someone were to pivot to a smaller scale item maybe you would see a larger market for it than the last few years?

Isn’t that what Backtroller boats tried?

I guess from my perspective, they lacked in marketing and turnaround in a timely manner. Maybe the owner had side hustles… still a $40K 17’ boat.

If a person were to use gelcoat without flake, stick to base features, manufacture it in-house, only sell to the Midwest to cut warranty costs, no dealer networking, numbers say it can be done for $22-25K.

Just thinking aloud. The quality control on these $40-150K boats is non-existent. The cost-cutting measures on some of these $130+K boats makes me sick. If someone were to take advantage of a market there, it exists.

YES! It would be my choice IF it was built like a tank and not thin and flimsey.
But I dont think the market would be there as all too many have “normalized” over-extending to keep up with the Jonses’.
