Mine gave out on me during the deer processing this year and I am in the hunt for a new one. What does everyone have, use, used and/or would recommend to get or stay away from.

I will be sealing anywhere around 500 packages or more each year so it would need able to last or have a good warranty.

After going through 3 food savers, I bit the bullet on a Weston Pro Model. I ended up with the 2300. It seals quite a bit faster than the food savers and is listed as “commercial grade.” I heard it doesn’t do well with liquids due to the vacuum strength. First season with it and happy so far. Processed 3 deer.

I am hoping for something that is decent with liquids too. I do some corned venison roasts as well as a fairly decent amount of raw and smoked fish. In Alaska my unlce and all of their neighbors have the big chamber ones but I am hoping to not drop into the investment of one like that.

I did look at some of the Westons and Bigger food savers on amazon and was almost thinking of trying out the warranty as you can get a 4 year for around 15-20.

I use the Cabelas Commercial grade 12″ one, have had it for about 2yrs and seems to work pretty good for me

We do multiple whitetail, 3 to 5 elk, fish, plus daily leftovers. Needless to say, I use mine hard.
    VacMaster 350

This link also had info on a great price

If you are serious about vacuum sealing then I recommend the Vacmaster 215 Chamber Vacuum Sealer. After going through 2 high end Foodsavers I decided to bite the bullet and get this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2DE9OBVDEc
I no longer have issues with water, heck you can even vacuum pack water, soups, anything. Blood is no longer an issue. Bags are significantly cheaper and you can get a wide variety including those with a sealed zip lock on one end, you put your stuff in through the bottom, seal it then you can cut open the top and reseal via the zip lock. Bags are significantly cheaper and it might even pay for itself in 2 years depending on how much you pack. I have never looked back.

These are the bags I use the most. I just buy a case at a time and they are split among us that hunt together. We usually have 500 to 1000 bags on hand at a time.
    Bags

Google full mesh VacMaster bags. Buy in bulk! They are heavy duty, have the full interior mesh, and cost less than sealameal and other generic bags. I also buy the rolls and make my own

I went with the Vacmaster 350. The chamber ones sound amazing and I know my uncle likes his in AK but with Western draws approaching and a sweet deal on a outdoor griddle for elk camp I think I will be able to put it to work.

Thank you everyone for the help.

You’ll be very happy with it. Just remember to take paper towel and wipe the blood out of the vacuum trough every once in a while during large production runs. There are some good Youtube vids on cleaning.

I have a foodsaver from Costco and I would agree that it likely doesn’t stand up to intense use. It works fine for my 1-2 deer a year and occasional use, but I wish the vacuuming was stronger.
