July 5th Canada will allow fully vaccinated citizens to return without quantining for 2 weeks. With a bunch of precautions. No news on us citizens yet.

No surprise on that. Now July is up next. I’m keeping with my prediction that it will open in Aug. Sept. at the latest. Just a matter if recreational travel is included and how many hoops are needed to jump through.

Canada said they will think about opening the boarder once they get to 75% vaccinated, they are currently around 20%. They are a mess up there, no way they get to 75% in a couple months.

The prime minster has revised that to 75% with at least 1 dose. They are rather close to that now. The last I read they have a higher percentage with 1 dose than the US does.

Ok, all we can do is wait and see.

The resort we go to was kind enough to do another roll over our deposit & reservation again to next year. It was pretty clear the border would be closed most of the summer so this past February we made reservations at Lake Vermilion.

I talked to some friends in Canada last night. When Canada bought the vaccine they went away from the 2nd dose in 28 days and gave more people their first dose. Now they are having are hard time getting more vaccine and things have slowed down..like I said before, things are a mess up there.

I talked to resorts and guides on US side of Rainy Lake in May who said “what we are being told” is that border is not opening until Aug at the earliest and more likely in September.

Since the Canadian resort owners don’t know when it will open I would take the US sides opinion with a grain of salt. They are guessing, just like everybody else.

I’d bet on civil war opening their border before Trudeau does, it’s crazy what they are doing.

Yup just a dog and pony show. The drugs, the human trafficking and everything else that comes with an open border will continue. Meanwhile you cant cross the border to the north to fish….what a world

She’s not there yet and when I see actual reports of what she sees I’ll believe it. If there is nothing newsworthy or career worthy she’ll bail ( or will bail if the news will paint her vaunted party in a bad light).
    Just my 2 cents

I lived in southern NM (20 miles from Mexico) for 10 years in the 70’s. Believe it or not there was ‘open’ border back then. Nothing was made of it by the media. Border Patrol had check points on roads heading north and shipped them back to Mexico, only to have them come again. The farmers needed the migrants for their cheap labor and a lot of illegal activities were ‘overlooked’. Too much of a border to control. I’m pretty sure there were times we were hunting in Mexico and didn’t even know it.

Love how the Canada boarder post turned into a Mexico boarder post. Only on IDO could we pull this off.

That’s all it took was a wager from me to get her there… that and Trump going whistling She really is not visiting the w i d e open areas of the border that I bet on. It would be like visiting Monticello to see the destruction from the riots in Minneapolis. coffee

The irony of our two major borders where one is like the wild wild west and one is like a wartime closure -atleast for us common folk isn’t lost on you?

No, the feeling is sadness that it has to be political.
