They have models for a virus that they can see, measure its effects, and predict deaths. But the models keep changing dramatically on sometimes a weekly basis.

But models on climate change based on something you can’t see or measure are predicting man made climate change will melt the arctic, raise sea levels, flood Florida, Maldives, Nee York and other apocalyptic events, should be be believed because CO2 is bad. And they keep changing.

CO2 is still rising during this shutdown.

There. I just started something… devil

The science is settled on the Prediction of climate 100 or more years from now. Ya, right.

They can’t even predict what a known, visible, predictable virus will do to a population without politicizing the crisis. We know the population that is most susceptible to it. But they ignore that fact and house arrest everyone else that is not at risk and destroy the country for their hatred of a president they don’t agree with.

The virus is being used politically, climate change is used politically. The border shut down will be used politically. How can you have any discussion without our disgusting politicians using the topic against us as a motive for there ideas? Having this happen in an election year only makes it 10x worse

Everything is political these days. Not only with the politicians, But with all people. The System that is in place is broken. Unless it gets fixed or totally scrapped it’s only going to get worse. It’s really sad to see what was once a great country broken down to what it is today. It’s even sadder to see it broken down being lead by the people who we put into office.

Oh man, you guys are going to get scolded for talking politics. That is how it works right? Right? This is a safe space!

I feel sorry for my friends up there who will likely go without revenue for a whole year. The Canadian government is big on handouts so maybe the will take care of them?

Yeah, this is all I really care about as well. I can skip a year of trips, but I hope the normal resorts are still in business this winter / next summer. Another thing to consider is how many of the resort owners are actually American. I doubt Canada or US will help them?

I know my group spends a fair amount of $ each of the trips we make there. there is always a ton of Americans there when we are. Overall I’m sure this shut down is a huge lost of $ to those resort area’s. I’m sure more than a few will not make it. I don’t think Canada has the huge amount of bailout $ that the US has. Our government has done a better job of hoard / hiding our tax $’s than there’s has.

Canada is providing 2k every 4 weeks for anyone who lost their job due to covid including self employed (up to 4 months). They also have a program to defer mortgage payments. Their relief program is heavily focused on individuals and small businesses From what I have been told by family up there

From my observation, politics and the like are allowed to a point… as long as it remains respectful. Once the personal attacks start, it’s over.

No idea about that specifically, I would assume it depends on how much they are helping the “hospitality” industry.

I was contacted by the resort I reserved for first weekend in June. I put a $500 deposit last summer to hold my cabin for this year. Family owned. She said I will receive a refund or I could rebook later this year. You could hear the pain in her voice. These resorts in Canada use the deposits to prepare for the next season. I didn’t request a refund. I can’t rebook this year either. It was budgeted for me already so it was a donation to a small resort that I hope can make it through this lockdown.

Talked to my outfitter yesterday, that I have used for decades. He lives in Minnesota, he leases 7 lakes in Northern Manitoba from the Crown. He cannot get to his camps, he receives nothing from The US or Canada in terms of financial help… his biggest worry is that people KNOW he will not be at his camps and motors and generators and anything else not nailed down, are fair game, for those who no doubt are also suffering through this.

(come to think of it, one year we arrived and the bunks were stolen out of a cabin that were nailed down.. somebody needed lumber) doah

At least Canada is nice and lets US businessmen open and operate businesses in Canada. A lot of countries make it rather difficult or impossible for US citizens to open a business in their countries. I know of several Fly in resorts in Canada that are owned and operated by people from Minnesota. I hope they can all survive thru all of this. Most have invested a lot of $ and time into these businesses.

The majority of lodges here are not bothering to open this year. It’s too late now to get staff, supplies, and sort out the logistics. Cheaper to stay closed.

All of Canada has avg. out around 1100 new cases per day for the last couple of days. MN. alone is avg.+or- 700 cases per day! Ontario’s cases are rising with the relaxation of the rules.Manitoba residents are not permitted to travel North of the 53 parallel even to check on their cabins and equipment so far. Saskatchewan’s north is still half closed off to residents to protect the F.N. community’s from outsiders bringing it in. Most provinces are only taking reservations in their Parks this summer for residents of the province only I see. Canada I think can handle their cases for now no need to compound the problem with tourists from other country’s perhaps bringing in the virus to small community’s not equipped to handle the cases. Most likely a working Vaccine will help open the borders to tourists once they are able to prove they are free of Corvid 19 is the word I have been hearing. Fish Safe.

It will be an interesting count on my next run up there whenever that will be, how many small businesses are shuttered along my path…
