I know you’re a BSer big g but damn, really hope you’re not pulling chains on this one!

Did see that Ontario is set to begin loosening restrictions for their residents. “Seasonal businesses for recreation” is listed as part of what is now included. Still all indications from media make it seem like theres no chance nonessential travel across the border will be allowed.

Not holding my breath, but that would be nice big_g! Have a trip scheduled for June 18-21 to Silver Muskie Lodge. Would be my first trip up there.

Same indications from reading http://www.cbc.ca. Reads like it’s a no brainer there will be a mutual 30 day extension to I think June 21st. I might be off a day or two. Also reading they are prioritizing local things like retail ahead of tourism from outside Canada.

One thing I saw in an article to think about. The Ontario provincial government is in Toronto. Right across the border they see more deaths in Detroit than cases in Ontario. Their highest case counts are in the suburbs next to Detroit. That plays in the minds of the decision makers.

I was scheduled for a trip in Ontario from June 19-25. I just received notification from the resort. They have been informed from the provincial government that the border will remain closed until June 21 and possibly longer. They are allowing guests to re-book for later in the summer (no guarantee the border will be open) or next year. Disappointing, but expected.

Something else to watch on this front that perhaps could give you an idea of when it might open back up: NHL hockey restart. A significant number of NHL players live in Canada (and other countries overseas) and they would all need to come across the international border to play. I think Canada has a mandatory 14 day quarantine for anyone coming into the country right now so that could be problematic for NHL players moving back and forth across the border. Keep an eye on the NHL restart and when it appears the international travel restrictions ease, the border will likely open back up again.

We had a guys trip planned For late July up to Morson, Ontario to chases some muskies on LOW. Not taking the chance anymore. We cancelled and we added a third trip to Vermilion instead.

The Canada business is just too risky. Who knows when the border will open? PM Trudeau doesn’t sound like he’s in any hurry. If we had waited til the last second, all of our backup plans would have been booked up solid. Not to mention, we have guys in our group waiting on enhanced drivers license applications, which are currently halted. When the licensing centers do reopen, they’ll be working on a huge backlog of expired licenses.

Good thinking. The fishing could be just as good and waiting on enhanced drivers licenses to get across the border is very risky.

Trudeau and his cronies will open the border on or after November 4th. Just banned 1,500 guns in Canada without an actual law being put in place or passed by the government. Seems like the lord has all the power and the people have little. I can keep my money in the states for awhile not that I have a choice.

It all sounds very political now… everybody knows he is not a fan of Trump.

I think the primary issue is the Detroit-Toronto area. Detroit has been slammed by viral infections and its right across the river from Toronto, which is the largest metropolitan area in all of Canada.

Fairly close about 250 miles which is about the same as the North metro to St. Francis. Each leader has to look out for their country as they see fit.

Windsor ontario is right across the detroit river, from detroit. The ambassador bridge and a tunnel under the river are the two main ways to cross by vehicle. If not the busiest, it has to be one of the busiest crossing areas between the two countries. The number of covid cases in the detroit metro are probably going to play into the decision to open.

What would not being a fan of Trump have to do with anything? Tons of Americans want to cross the border and fish and spend money and pay Canadian tax this summer, but he’d turn all that down just because he doesn’t like a neighboring country’s head of state?

    Yes

Might be something to do with the us having a really high number of cases. I don’t know what Trudeau gains in some war with trump by keeping the border closed

Non-issue. Just as it’s a non-issue with imports from China. The leaders must do what they believe is best for their country’s people.

In the big picture does it really matter if somebody misses their Canadian trip? No. There will be other years.

I’m sure some of the guys around here are afraid their eyes will burn if they open a CNN article lol , but says right in there “by mutual agreement, the border will remain closed” and “The Trump administration is also preparing to extend travel restrictions and stringent border control measures this week related to the coronavirus pandemic”.

Oh, you can find the same info on Fox. “We have been in contact with our Canadian and Mexican counterparts and they also agree that extending these restrictions is prudent at this time”

But I’m sure Trudeau is doing it because he hates Trump, and Trump is doing it to protect Americans.

This is a tangent but you can actually get some of tax money you pay in Canada back. Save your receipts and you can send them in and they will pay you a percentage of the sales tax

I feel sorry for my friends up there who will likely go without revenue for a whole year. The Canadian government is big on handouts so maybe the will take care of them?

CNN is terrible. How can a US media outlet attack the President of the United States 24/7?? It’s almost like they are hoping America fails just so they can be right about something?!? Very twisted.

It’s all about not overwhelming the smaller hospitals. Like Dryden, Fort Francis etc. They are not equipped to handle more than a couple people in icu. Small business up here have access to federal funds to help them out.

Ugh, I know right? Did you see the giant scandal they made out of him wearing a tan suit? Just attacking him for the sake of attacking him
