I’ve fished Upper Red for years and have always stayed away from the invisible line splitting Upper. I have heard some limited stories about guys drifting into the reservation after their motor died or something and things not ending up too well. Anyone fished close to the boundary? Not worth it?

There is absolutely no reason to push your luck. The lake is fantastic almost everywhere.

I’m not sure it mattered, but a month ago we were a half mile from the line and did well.

Some years back a guy from Princeton got in the wrong side and the tribe confiscated his boat. It took lawyers to get involved, to tell the truth I don’t know how it was solved.

There really is zero reason to push the issue. But that said you always have guys who need to stick there hand over a fire to see if it’s hot. jester

Sounds like something the hipster hikers that were arrested in Iran would do.

So if we catch them on our side of the line do we get to confiscate their stuff?

    Why does it matter?

I wouldn’t care if it was the best fishing in the world you could not get me to fish on any lake that side of the border.

This is an interesting read…somebody school me on how it all works over there?
Frankly, I don’t fish reservation water here in ceded territory Northern WI but I also don’t know the rules, so don’t go. In this part of the state, I doubt the fishing is any better/worse on or off a res.
Anyway, how’s it work with Red Lake, and why?

applause Now thats funny! I was on a trip up there this fall and we had a guide and fished there. He told us a story about a DNR officer who went over to the other side because he thought he saw people on the reservation who didn’t belong there and it ended up being about 10 Natives. Well, they caught the officer and ended up shoving a 18″ walleye up his ***… He had to get it removed in the ER. It was in head first up past the back fin. It’s disturbing…
