    UPDATE: A water recovery mission in the Mississippi River was unsuccessful Wednesday night, according to authorities.

    The Minneapolis Fire Department said six fire crews, two fire department boats, the Ramsey County Water Patrol and the Ramsey County Dive Team all responded to the scene after a person who was swimming reportedly went missing.

    Authorities said crews remained on scene from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. but didn’t find anything.

    The investigation is ongoing.

    The Minneapolis Fire Department is involved currently in a recovery mission of a man who went underwater in the Mississippi River.

    Bystanders confirmed they saw a man go under to the fire department.

    Minneapolis and St. Paul fire departments are on scene with Ramsey Water Patrol.

    At this time, no victim has been located. Crews are actively searching.

    From what I saw in another report, it appears the man tried to swim across the river from Hidden Falls Park to Minnehaha Creek area and didn’t make it.

    ===========================================================================================================================

    According to an officer at the scene, two men started on the St. Paul side of the river and tried to swim across. One made it and the other did not. Multiple witnesses reported seeing one of the men go under water.

    The person who successfully crossed the river ran to the people at the Minnehaha Dog Park and had them call 911.

    We were at Hidden Falls having a picnic when this all went down. Apparently two young guys decided to swim across from the ST Paul side over to the Mpls side. One guy made it and the other guy apparently didn’t. They were up a bit from the park so we didn’t see anything really happen.

    The Sheriff was on the water quickly but it’s a pretty tragic deal.

    When I saw the report last night I was hoping they just lost track of the guy and he would show up. But they are still looking today. Not good. Would never want to be the guy who finds a body while out fishing….

    Condolences to family and friends.

    They were searching the park on both sides to see if he had maybe come out of the water in a different spot. There were a couple of women at the dog park that believed they saw him go under. It’s tragic.

    I wish we would’ve had the boat…there was no boat traffic and they were trying to flag someone down. The first pleasure boat didn’t get there until the guy was under for what seemed like awhile. The sheriff’s were close behind. Feel like if I had the boat maybe I could’ve been there sooner.

    As someone who witnessed a horrible crash on the MN river years ago and ended up pulling 1 body out before emergency personnel arrived and assisting with the other 2 recoveries that night, I can tell you it is not fun at all. Really makes you take river safety very seriously. Prayers to the family.

    Anyone heard any reports of recovery of the victim? Haven’t seen anything in the local news.
