Every year after deer hunting, my sons and I have the super bowl of squirrel hunting. Armed with .22’s we hit the deer stands to go mana a mano with the wiley tree rat. This year offered a rare opportunity, grouse! Hunting them with a .22 may not sound sporting to some, but what a great way to hone your skills, and not ruin meat! Here are three of mine showing them off.

i did that this fall before deer season. I shot one at about 75 yards with open sites, I thought that i missed him. but there he laid right where i seen him. anyway, I am heading up by Mille lacs this weekend to chase them critters. gotta go and get some for the wife, she will eat grouse but not duck. so while i am eating duck, she will eat grouse.

I am having a wild game “Smoke Fest” this weekend. This year has blessed me with a wide variety of game. I give them out as Christmas presents to family. I have grouse, pheasant, geese, and venison that I wrap in colored Saran Wrap, and I buy chunks of cheeses, crackers, and a bottle of Baileys or Snow Shoe Grog for the long Winter nights. I love the smell of the smokers going! Can’t beat it!

I got a smoker this summer, haven’t done a lot with it yet, but love it so far. Where do you get your recipes for smoking all that different game? I’ve smoked some chicken from a recipe my buddy had, and also smoked some venison jerky, used the same recipe I had for the dehydrator. I haven’t tried smoking any fish yet but looking forward to that, too. Any recipe help you have would be great!

    Thanks!
