Steve Carney says that area has been best for him. The 94 corridor. Anyone have any info to share? Thinking about hitting it during the week. I have maps but I need to know how far I should drive to get into decent area. Thanks.

I hunted a WMA South of Fergus Falls for the last 1/2 hour of the day on a Sunday a few weeks ago when I was heading back from duck hunting ND. I drove some dirt roads just checking things out and was very impressed with birds I saw on roads and ditches so I gotta’ think there is a decent # of em’ up that way. Didn’t get any that night but they are there…

Crap. I just checked my pile of WMA maps and I never bought the ones that far north. What is the fastest way to identify WMA’s in Douglas, Grant and Otter Tail? Thinking of heading up there Wed.

I’m doing it tomorrow. Heading out to a WPA/WMA rich area NW at 0500. I have about a dozen areas marked on my paper maps and I can pull up the DNR application on my smart phone. Just gonna wing it. Not sure what I will encounter but I only need to find 2 roosters.

I think my little girl can do it for me.

    So how’d it go?

I’m anxious to get back at it this weekend.

It was terrible. I hunted stealth mode. No door slammingand no talking to my dog in the field. I even avoided all parking lots and parked on the road to approach areas from a different side. I must have hunted 6 or 7 public areas and stuck to the thickest stuff, usually next to or in cattails. I eventually flushed 2 hens together but other than that no sightings and no tracks. I was impressed with the amount of public land in the region I was in. You could just drive back roads and easily find multiple WPA’s. I like that area.
