Well just thought I would post about the good and bad of my Wisconsin Pheasant opener. Sorry no pics though. Well it all started about about noon. was nice and sunny and then right as the noon bell went off it started to rain. Not a big deal as we where still waiting for a few guys to show up. so after they all got there 8 of us total we headed to do some walking. Me with my German short hair and another guy with his golden retriever. started off walking a creek bottom and kicked 2 roosters up. one gave a couple shots the other gave no shots neither bird was hit.
Then we walked a pine tree grove and my GSP kicked to 2 from there. again no shots never even saw them just herd them. So after we got done with that walk we went to take a little break from by the trucks and we all noticed that my GSP had a cut on his leg. I looked at it and thought well its only about a half inch long and not deep and he was not limping or anything on it so I let him keep hunting.
Well the farmer next to us was picking his corn and kept honking his horn and holding up fingers. Here there was 8 roosters and 4 hens running in the corn so after he was done picking it we started to walk this little creek bottom that was right next to it and it was a honey hole to say the least. We ended up getting our 8 man limit in 30 min of walking that. So we all headed up to the house to shoot some guns. I left my GSP in the car and he slept like a rock. Got him home and he leg swelled up supper bad.
So I called me vet and talked to here. She told me to was the cut out with dawn dish soup warm water, then put some save on it and wrap it to stop the swelling so we did. so said to call her sunday and let her know how it looks. So we got up sunday and his whole leg had swelled up like a base ball. Called the vet and got him in at 9 30 to get it looked at. Well the cut h thought was just a skin tear ended up being a puncher wound that went almost 3 inches deep. Now he is laid up with a tube in his leg to prevent the swelling and drain it out, also he has to get stiches in after the tube comes out. and be laid up for at least 3 weeks. put will be longer than that I think. Mani can only think of the pain he was in well trying to please me and do what he loves. Dogs always surprise me on what they will do for the one who cares for and about them.
So the good part was we got out limit the bad part is my GSP is out most likely for the rest of the year because I want to make sure he heals good and and don’t lame him up.
Any one else go out and if so how did you do. ( sorry the the long drawn out post. just thought I would share it it)
