    Hunted by Appleton. Saw about 8 hens on our morning hunt then left the field because of rain and wind. Picked it back up at 4 and got one rooster. The neighbors got 4 both days with lots of dogs. Talked to DNR and the Waterfowl Production Area’s are definitely open to hunting. He said only the refuge was closed. He assured us nobody would be run off the WPA’s though. That was just a rumor.

    Didn’t get a report from the Marshall area for Sunday, but Saturday the hunting was very poor. Windy day with lots of crop in everywhere. Very little shooting heard and notably fewer hunters seen almost everywhere.

    Not a great start to the season. Really a shame about the overall bird numbers being down to such low levels.
