Any mourning dove hunters out there? Season opens Sept. 1.

I’ve thought about it but I really dont care for the taste and it takes so many to make a meal. I would probably go if a friend twisted my arm but nobody I know hunts them.

I’ve never tried it and never eaten dove, but I am hoping to give it a go with my bro-in-law. Something to do, I guess.

It fun. I did it in Texas 2 years ago. They seemed a little livery to me but wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeno they were definitely edible!
Easy to clean. Once you get the rythm down it takes less than a minute.

A few years ago a group of 5 or 6 of us hunted them in a huge gravel pit. I think we ended up with 30 for the group. We cooked them up in a couple crockpots and they were really good. I used to hunt them on my own, but never got more than a couple each time out and it really wasn’t worth it.

I think they are a blast to hunt and great table fare. I just haven’t done it since living in SD.
