Grouse fever officially hit me today Aug 16 for no apparent reason. Must be these cool mornings? Putting my first trip together now. I didnt even know drumming counts until moments ago.

“Minnesota’s ruffed grouse spring drumming counts were higher than last year across most of the bird’s range, according to a report released by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).”

hey all, this is my first post. I have been checking this website frequently for over a year. I enjoy reading about the stories about “muley” and seeing pictures of everyones foodplots. I am actually from Iowa and am a passionate bowhunter. I have family in SE MN and I enjoy hitting up the trout steams when visiting them. I have tried several times to kill a grouse in NE IA without ever seeing one. I would love to shoot one and have it mounted. Most people where I live have never even seen a grouse. If anyone has a great place to shoot a grouse and ever wants company I would be more than willing to travel. I really want to kill one to get it mounted. Im glad I finally became a member and look forward to posting here more often. There seems to be a great group of guys on here!

Good to hear. I booked one trip in the magical region today and two more planned elsewhere not counting opener.
I cant even think of fishing in the fall. Missing a great Mille Lacs night trolling weekend with the boys because I just want to hunt. This doesnt even count late Oct pheasant then deer.
Things are about to get busy for us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The WI drumming count took an unexpected swing up this year. I have two pointers who are pretty happy to hear that news. So am I!

    FWIW –

I have been seeign a few broods this year – and am happy to report that they are good sized broods. 6-8-10 birds in a group with one big momma……that tells me they had a good nesting season. Labor Day will be the last walleye trip, then winterize and stow the boat……..

I don’t feed the dog all year so that I can fish in the fall!

Don’t worry….the birds are always on my radar. To say I am looking forward to this fall would the understatement of the season.

Lots of birds out there to chase – and I plan on working that skinny little dog of mine into a frazzle. Let the games begin…..

I have heard the drumming numbers may have been close to 40% higher in Sconnie!!! I am kind of psyched too!!! Now to get the tick control ready for the dog(s)…
