Last weekend on Sunday, after putting in our time in the deer stands, my buddy and I decided to work the dog a bit and set some traps. I didn’t have a pheasant or waterfowl license, but I tagged along for moral support. Jeff quickly bagged his 3 pheasants after a short walk. He had to finish one off at close quarters in a slew that was knee deep. Sorry about the pic.
After the pheasant limit was filled, we jumped one stock dam. This is how we grew up duck hunting. The memories!! I can’t remember how many times we jumped this same dam as kids. Many days were a bust, but those few where a quick limit was shot still stick in our minds.
The pheasant outlook in central SD is best I’ve seen in years. I sat one night at my dad’s place. I had to sit on the ground in some tall grass the birds use to roost. I got dive bombed so many times. It was very cool. Wish I could have gotten some footage, but I was focused on the deer that didn’t show that night.
