South Dakota Pheasant Hunt
I had been planning a trip to go to South Dakota for a while now. I planned a trip the past couple of years but due to unforeseen circumstances I haven’t been able to go. Finally I got everything set up with my Dad, and the adventure began.
I left at 5:30 so I could make it up by noon so I could go out right away. A couple of pics at sunrise. It is hard to see but there were about 5 coyotes on this stack of bales.
Once I crossed the state line I started to see birds. I had told some of my coworkers that it is very common to see pheasants sitting in trees and fences. Here is a few in the trees.
A few turkeys along the road
I got to my destination a little after dinner, I visited with one of the guys we were going to hunt with. Hopefully I will be able to get around as good as he does when I am 82. Here are the first 5 birds of the day
We ended up getting our limits each day. I didn’t get pictures of all of the birds since we cleaned them after each pass through the corn. Here are a few more.
Sunday morning before we went out hunting, I saw some pheasants sitting on the fence down in the corral with the spotting scope.
Just to the north of the farm a new non typical state record muley was shot with a bow this past week.
I will be making another trip up this year to my parents other farm to get some more birds later this year. If you have never hunted pheasants in South Dakota it is well worth your time and money to make a trip up there. If you don’t have access to private ground there is a ton of public ground.
