Upland Hunting Around the Metro?

    Hey everyone.

    I have a 6 month old lab that’s getting back from gun dog training on Saturday after we go for his first hunt!

    I have never done any hunting with my own dog, just gone out with friends. I’m looking for some places within about an hours drive of the Cities that would be great to get a young dog out.

    Do you know of any good State land, Retriever Clubs, Game Farms, or just some wide open fields for him to run? I currently live in Maplewood on the corner of 94 and 494.

    Thanks for your help! I have been on IDO Fishing for a long time and am looking forward to all the great info IDO Hunting can provide too!

    welcome to the dark side.

    i think theres a spot up 61 north of hugo that has some nice open fields. otherwise, theres a bunch down around owatonna that might work too. but anything close to the cities gets hit hard!

    or you could always check the dnr site for more info on wma’s.
