I’d go with a 60″ shaft without hesitation.
In that price range you need to look at the Power Drive 70# thrust from Minnkota. That’s a 24 volt motor. I would recommend against considering a 12 volt motor given the size and weight of your boat.

Good deal.
Stepping up to the 80# lb trolling motor in the Terrova line would put you over budget. Figure around $900 for a base 80# thrust motor in that product line.

That 70# Power Drive (base motor – no options) will set you back right about $650.

For that sized boat a 70# power drive should do a pretty solid job for you.
One can never have too big of a trolling motor, buy the biggest the budget allows. I went with an 80# on my boat I kick myself for not getting the 36V one, I could use more motor.

If budget was not a consideration I would have definitely suggested an 80# – 24 volt or a 101# – 36 volt. That boat is a deep chested, high sided monster.
You will definitly need the long shaft and the more power the better for that rig.Keep an eye on the classifieds or maybe make a post you are looking for one and maybe you can find a bigger used one for that price.
If you go the used route, look for an 80# powerdrive. They made them until the Terova came out. Good motor.

Follow what the rest of the boy’s are saying and you will be in great shape. A 24 volt 60″ shaft you will need for that rig.
No matter the thrust I would go with a 60″ shaft and a 24 volt system like others have said. With those to guidelines to go by i would look for one that has the most thrust that is in your price range. I would go with at least a 70, but bigger is better.
I could not have said it better myself

She’s my walleye vessel and on the weekends on the Croix you can never have a big e’nuff boat
You might look at Cabelas for a good deal on a remanufactured one. I had my problems with getting the right one for boat last year. Some like the powerdrive I tried it last year and couldn’t get acustomed to the steering. Traded it in for the maxim variable speed with a 54″ shaft but it was too long fot my boat. Traded it for the maxxim with a 48″ shaft universal 2 sonar variable speed.
The first two motors were 70# thrust and they didn’t have the 70# in stock when I went to get the 48″ shaft so I went ahead and got the 80#. Like one of the earlier posts you cannot get too big of a motor. I was out on Hillsdale lake earlier this month with 30mph winds fusting to 40-50mph with 30″ & 36″ waves not a problem except a couple times I wish I had the 54″ shaft.
From the looks of your boat I would get a 101# thrust but that will get you over budget: remember you have to get the trolling motor and the 3 batteries to power it.
Good luck Richard
Just one comment looking at the picture. I’d check out your tongue weight. Looks a little heavy with the way your truck is sagging.
I agree with Sgt. Rock – you may have to move the trailer axel forward to get the recommend 5-10% hitch weight.
If fishing in wind or current (for that size boat) you may not be happy with anything less than 101 lb thrust.

Im going to my first ever pheasants forever event and going to sign up to be a member never been to one anyone fill me in on what to expect i hear the got some pretty good raffles ?
Its hard to say. Depending on the size of your chapter. Here in Mcleod county, the first to spend 1 mil,2 mil, and 3 mil, its huge. But you also pay alot to get in these raffles. Every chance at a gun is 20$ and we have a large auction that sells some spendy stuff. IMO its worth it to give back to my passion so I dont cringe too much at dropping a couple hundred. You will enjoy it either way. Welcome to PF!!
you think it would be about the same for the gun drawing where im going ? i hear they got some nice guns that are going to be there i have heard five ten and twenty dollars for the guns ? so idk think ill just plan on brining a couple hundred to be safe
Our gun only raffle has 20 guns for 20 dollars a chance. Plus another dozen or so guns in other raffles. We can buy a bundle at the door with tickets for all the different raffles for 150. Then there are several different casino games inside for other prizes and can buy additional tickets for any raffle we want to enter. Good luck! I have won 2 guns and three prints over the years so I feel am close to even money wise, even so I spent the money not expecting anything in return.
have fun and dont be afraid to spend money these thing are big for clubs sometimes they can make or brake a club i atend 3 to 4 banq. a year a wisconsin waterfowl asso.(wwa)
