I’ve talked to 3 different people in SD and I just can’t get anyone to say it might be worth the trip. They all say the same thing, lots of snow. 2 of them were farmers that don’t ever get out and hunt in the stuff but 1 was a hunter and he said there was about 8-12″ in the fields with a crust on top making for very hard walking. Last year wasn’t that bad and the dithes and cattails were up to my waist then and are worse this year. I am finally giving up , until next year. I think this is only my second weekend home since the first weekend in Sept., unless anyone has any ice fishing openings. I’ll be trying to get out on the Croix this week, picked up some walleye and sauger the other day but tough to get out there without a wheeler (anyone have one for sale). It was a good year, only 9 months to wait for it to start again.

I hear ya on the early end. I made it out Christmas Eve and said that was enough. I am supposed to leave for SD on Thursday for deer hunting. Hope thats not a waste of time.

Good luck out there Red Lab.

Kooty, you could have lied to me and told me the snow melted at least then I would have had 1 positive report.

I will be on the Croix near Bayport tomorrow morning.

Sorry man, seeing tons of birds on my way home Saturday sure made me want to hunt them some more, but in reality, they have such a huge advantage this time of year.

    It’s ice fishing time now!!

Making my last hunt of the year tomorrow morning.

Hopefully, I can make it long enough to get a bird or two. I’m hearing the same thing about the snow, but I need to check it out first hand and give it a whirl.
