Wow, that was some tough walking! We hunted some private land down by Sacred Heart and there was a good 12″+ of snow in all areas. There wasn’t a hard crust on top, so that makes it a little easier. We only hunted for a couple hours, but we saw a ton of birds. All of the birds were in thick cover adjacent to a bean field. Suprisingly they weren’t in the cattails but rather in the the small brush patches around it. I think we flushed 4 “coveys” of 20-50 birds in each. Most of the birds got up out of range, but I managed to drop a nice late season rooster at about 50 yards. I never saw it drop, but my brother had a good mark and Jazzi sniffed it out.

The picture is the snowmen my girlfriend made while I was hunting along with Jazzi holding her prize for the day. You might need a magnifying glass to see.

Good for you Bigfife just getting out there and hunting! A late season rooster in deep snow is always something to celebrate.

Nicely done FIFE. Any bird late season in these conidtions is a prize!
