In early Nov when I last visited SD, the corn was primarily all in and I was focused on deer hunting. Not this trip. Headed to my sister’s for Xmas. Bro-in-law says the pheasants are thick as fleas now. They better be on the look out.

    Good luck Koots.

One question, if you cant hit one in your Dads barn, how are you going to hit one in the open wild?

Haha. We don’t hit them in the barns, they are still to small then. We wait til they are outside in the pens to hunt them.

Wish I could use my 2nd 5 day week. Perhaps Stacie would let me take the back roads around Pierre to Rapid and do some Road Hunting.

Here is a pic of my little slice of heaven. In the far upper right, you can see a couple small specs. One is dad’s four wheeler, the other is him mowing that 80 acres prepping it for CRP replanting.

This picture is south to north looking. All pheasants start out in the two barns just to north of the house. They are then spread throughout the complex of pens to the north.

Stopping at Hyvee in Watertown for king crab after member on here mentioned sale. Not sure what I will be chasing deer, pheasants or coyotes. Probably all of them. Good luck, be safe and have fun. Merry Xmas to all

Better check the weather Yodel. We are bumping up our departure time by 12 hours to try and beat the heavy snowfall. Good luck to you and have safe travels!!

We made it here about 1AM.

It was very foggy in some areas, but the roads were primarily good. We drove the speed limit most of the way. This morning, foggy again in north central SD.

Should be chasing roosters this afternoon.

That drive to the hills is a brutal one. Drive safe and shoot straight.

Had a semi successful hunt today. I got 2 pheasants and one coyote, lost two wounded runners. The birds are wary and you gotta be stealthy to get into shootin range. However, they are grouped up thick when you find them.

Snowing here now for a couple hours, but little accumulation. They are calling for 8+ inches, we’ll see how easy we can access the “pheasanty” areas over the next few days.
