The good news is that I have been able to find birds. Each day is different and one day I will see hundreds of birds with few roosters and the next time out I will see hundreds of birds with a lot of roosters. Either way the birds are in the WMA areas that I have been hunting in full force. The days of hunting range from 20 min of hunting to get my birds, down to hunting all day for one bird.
For those of you that don’t know me, I have developed a passion for pheasant hunting after getting my dog 3 years ago. This year my guy “zeke” has really come into his own. I have been shooting very poor this year and dropping legs on at least 4 birds that have sailed out of sight. I am very happy to say that I am yet to lose any of those thanks to zeke . He has been the man and I found that in his third year he has really figured out chasing down wounded birds.
The season itself has been good. I have nailed down 21 birds so far in MN and all of them on public land. Due to my 7 month old having that great h1n1 flu and a SD trip I have not been able to get out as much as me and my wife would like . I have been finding birds in heavy grass and thickets, very few in cattails. Unlike most hunters I like it when it’s wet. It gives me a chance to corner the birds that want to keep running. I have shot a lot of birds while standing in knee deep water. With that being said, I can’t wait for some snow and cold. I only hunt state land and with this nice weather I am finding hunters everywhere. I only hunt weekdays and am still finding most areas hunted before I get to them. Bring on the snow and cold until the season is over!
The bad news
I know with my 6 year old truck with scratches and dents, my $10 gun case and the $1 in change in my ash tray it may seem to the avg guy that I am very well off, I am not and I work hard for my things . So, to the person(s) who unlocked my truck with the keys that I had on my windshild. I hope you enjoy my two boxes of federal ammo, my duck/goose calls, my $10 gun case, my old danner boots and the $1 in change. I do want to say thanks for locking the doors and putting the keys back on the windshield . Doing what I do for a living I should know better, but I guess I thought people that enjoy the outdoors are ALL good people. I guess leaving my keys on the truck in case a farmer has to move my truck to get around it is not a good idea anymore.
Anyways, It’s been a good year so far and lets keep them. Here are a few photos.
