I had some luck this past weekend. It was all on private land though. We need some cold, snow, and for the ice to form so the fair weather hunters arn’t so inclined to pound the state lands. The corn harvest is still a problem here too. I think the best part of the season is just around the corner!

I too agree with what both have said. I pound the grasses hard for roosters and have only managed 11 so far while only missing 1. On a typical year I should be at 20+. Lots of miles on the legs and truck and am just not seeing the birds. Not even hens. To get the low spots froze over and the grassy areas covered in snow will be the saving grace for the season.

I think the birds can be found in the state land. We popped two from a covey this past Friday.

I believe the key is to find the corners or less traveled areas of the public land. We found the birds way back behind a pond in a corner that only had one way in to it.

We found ours in Iowa over the weekend. Took us a day to dial things in but they are there. Cant wait to get back once they have some snow.
