Here’s a couple areas in ND to check out. If you put a triangle on a map between Coleharbor, Turtle Lake, and Underwood, there is a ton of public land and getting access to private land is not impossible. I like this area because of its mixed bag, you can get excellent duck, goose, pheasant, and partridge hunting all within that area.

Also, I’ve had friends in years past head out to Mott, ND. That’s a pretty good poke from Mpls, but they were able to get access to private land there reasonable. I’m not sure about public land there but check out the ND PLOTS program and maps for starters.

    Good luck!

From my experience, in ND its pretty easy to get on private land if you ask. We hunt the SE corner of the state and do very well. Without a dog I would walk ditches and treelines. Also get out there at first legal shooting hours and do a sneak when they are out of the cover. The hotels are pretty cheap too. I’ve stayed in Lidgerwood and Forman.

If I’m not mistaken in ND you don’t need permission to hunt. If the land isn’t posted it is open to the public. Stay away from buildings and you should be OK. If it is posted don’t be afraid to ask, often they just want to know who is on their land
