We hunted near Swift Falls and our full group shot 16 birds for 11 guys. Our smaller group of 4 shot our limit. We had to work for them. We didn’t see nearly as many birds as years past, but we dropped every rooster we flushed within range. Our group lost 1 bird. I’m still frustrated about that. On Sunday we walked the same areas on Saturday and as to be expected, didn’t see nearly as many birds. We shot a few in the morning and then hit the road to listen to the Vikes game.

Between Swift Falls and St. Cloud I would say the harvest is about 5%. We checked a bunch of public land on the way home and it didn’t look like many people were out this weekend. Rain (snow) or shine, my relatives tell me that they will be hitting the fields hard to get the crop out. This will push more of those uneducated birds into the grass. Follow the combines and you’ll find birds.

Got out for a few hours on Sunday with the Bro in Law. Beautiful day to be in the field. It reminded me why I love hunting pheasants. Got to watch the dogs work. Saw 4 roosters between the two of us. Fired two shots and had two roosters for diner last night.

The dog was tired last night. I guess the running we have been doing is not enough to get him in shape just yet

Great day to be in the field, and a great day to be hunting

We only hunted until about 1, and then I helped butcher a nice wedge head that got stuck Thursday night

Is there a better time of the year
