Only 30 more days until Rooster season.

If you haven’t already, time to get that Pup in shape including yourself for those long cattail walks.

I can’t wait as Rufus and I enter our 10th Fall together. Hopefully the ol’ Boy can keep going!

Who elese is chomping at the wing to some birds?

I’ve been getting the dogs out more with the cooler weather and they are getting pretty excited to go. The old one knows what’s going on but the pup isn’t so sure, he just gets excited because the old does. The only problem is the my hunting partner (the wife) can’t make the first SD trip so I may be going it alone.

Where you heading in SD? My hunting partners (The Wife and my boy Rufus) will be in Hoven, SD chasing rooosters. For the MN opener I wll be down at the Honey Hole just West of Mankato with the boys and maybe the Wife for the annual opener down there! I can’t wait!

Yep the dog is getting antsy. We have hunted the Webster SD area the last couple years. We may be checking out some different areas this year. Last year we didnt do as well. We hunt mostly walkin areas and there was still alot of corn standing when we were there.

I hunt the Eureka and Bowdle area. my first trip out there is the 3rd week which is oct.31 and Nov.1 weekend. The locals were catching some nice eyes in the river last year so I might take a couple poles along this year. I also go again around new years to the same area, late season is a blast. I may also go out in mid december to hunt with some customers that we have in Aberdeen. Later in the season is always weather dependant.

I got Bodi started early this year. Two weeks ago we hit the game farm and went 7 for 8. This last weekend we went down to Fort Thompson, SD on the reservation for the Prairie Chicken/Sharpie opener. Weather was hot but bird hunting was phenominal. We got limits everyday and were selective for buck chickens. Had to quit by 10 am each morning to keep the dogs from keeling over. They sure love the pasture ponds in that weather.

Bodi is in shape and is hunting like a 5 yr old. This is the first season I can say I am super pumped!

The SD crops are going to be a challenge again this year. The corn isn’t really close to harvest yet according to several family members. They are starting to cut some silage though. Good luck out there. I haven’t decided what weekend I’m going. 1st or 2nd. I’ll also be home for Xmas, so I plan to hunt then too.

I was also told that it’s really tall this year too. I was talking to a couple bikers this weekend and he said they had 6″ of rain by Aberdeen. He said it was head high by july. Said the shooting lane would only be a foot if you were lucky! That’s if your hunting in the corn.

Yes, they have had very good moisture out there this year. My family all has their fingers crossed they can get the crop out before snow. It was no fun for them last year. Many had to finish this spring.

I’ll be holding off until the following Thursday for 4 days over MEA. I’ll be leaving for SD on the 21st.

I’ve been working the dog all the summer. This will be Saidie’s first full season. I can’t wait to get into the duck slew next weekend.

I’m getting excited now. The dog is starting to get an extra step and my neighbor just gave me permission to hunt his 140 acres in SW MN. I guess it never hurts to ask.

I just traveled through NE to central SD for work last week. I think the later hunts are going to be better this year. The corn is very, very green yet. They just started cutting silage. And like was mentioned before, good luck seeing anything if you plan to hunt the corn. I don’t ever recall seeing it this tall.

Saturday will be here soon. My Dad took my dog to the game farm this weekend for a little warm up. It looks like it went well.
