We went down to Kansas over Labor Day weekend for our annual dove hunt/start of bird season. We had 3 phenomenal shoots on a wheat/alfalfa field. My nephew (our bird dog) collected a dove band from one of the birds – he was so excited! I have a picture, but I can’t figure out how to get it to post – rookie! Here’s hoping that the remainder of the 2009 bird season is as good as it started!

Is dove banding common? I have shoot alot of doves in minnesota, and never saw one banded or heard of it.

Heard back on the band details: The dove was banded in Emporia Kansas on 8/21/09. We killed the dove in Olpe Kansas (about 10 miles from Emporia) on 9/5/09. That poor dove didn’t migrate very far before falling to Nolan’s shot!
