Dust off the 20, and start stocking up on cream of mushroom soup. Can’t wait for the leaves to fall around Bemidji!

Do Hunter’s really hunt grouse from Atv’s? I have never seen it.Your gun has to be cased while riding right?

Yes, your gun must be cased. Remember, it’s only illegal IF you get caught.

I’m from Grand Rapids. I can say with out a doubt that 80% of the hunters I’ve seen out there are fat lazy slobs who “hunt” grouse along with other game from a 4 wheeler.

I’ve had them blow past me while I was hunting an area. Basically not turning back when they see me walking, but pass me and scare all the game for miles. I’ve seen them shoot from the road at a grouse on the road or in the ditch. Heck, I’ve seen a “hunter” shoot a grouse off the white line on the blacktop.

If they want to joy ride, they should go to Valley Fair. Leave the woods to those of us who know how to truely appreciate it and not spoil it for others. Sorry, obviously a touchy subject.

Looks like another slow year for SE Minnesota, though. I haven’t seen descent grouse numbers for 15 years in Houston County. Too many turkeys! Maybe it’s time for Earn-a-Tom!?!

I hope the numbers are there this fall. It’ll be the first fall for my new brit pup.

As far as four wheelers – I love them. They pack the trails down so the clover grows and is accessible to the grouse. They also drive past about 95% of the birds. Walk a good 4-wheel trial with a dog and you can have a great shoot – even after being disturbed by the wheelers…….they drive past 95% of the birds. My favorite trails that have been closed to wheelers are not as good as when they were open to wheelers.

I agree with the observation about the fat lazy slobs, though. The average hunter wlaking behind a dog is in a heck of a lot better shape than the average wheeler hunter…….go figure.

Grouse EVERYWHERE! I have spent the last few days scouting out bear spots along with working up all the habitats and my nerves are shot from all the birds flushing at my feet. Should be a great season!

I was up hanging a couple of deer stands on our land near Pierz and had several little cheepers flying out from underneath my feet as well.

I can’t f’n wait. The trip scale will definitely tip to grouse trips over pheasant trips this year. Already have 2 planned trips to the golden triangle.
