My father and bro have been telling me all season to put the bow away and come home(Rusk/Price county) to grouse hunt. So Friday after I couldn’t find anyone to deer hunt with down here in Jackson county, I packed up and went home to help them out. I was under strict rules that I was not allowed to shoot a buck because my tag was filled. OK, no big deal….it’s just nice to hunt with family again.
So we are about to head out the door and my brother says grab the shotgun instead of that rifle. Of coarse I laughed….ain’t no way I’m gonna have ol’ mossy horns standing in front of me and all I have is #7 shot upland bird loads! Boy do I wish I would have listend to him! The grouse population is out of control! I have no idea how many we jumped but I know without a doubt we would have brought home more grouse meat than we brought home deer meat! Right after muzzleloader season, I may just grouse hunt. I might just leave the bow in the case till next year. Anyone else run into a healthy population of grouse??
