too much corn?
I have been out twice this year, everything that I hunt hard is surrounded by corn. Sure you can get them when they fly out to roust but walking a field and watching the dogs work is more important to me.
All this means is that the late season hunting will be fantastic.
I agree, my honey hole has not spit out too ay birds this year the few times I have hunted. Corn on 2 sides do not help. I see the birds in the AM and PM bowhunting as they head to and from the corn, but during the day has been down right tough. Hoping to hit them hard after this deer stuff at Thanksgiving.
I would add the weather also! As long as there is corn and warm enough weather, there is no reason for the birds to be in the brush other than real early/late. Hunted down in Pipestone last weekend and we struggled. We did have some luck in cat tails and near ponds though.
Dexter report, Spent a couple hours around the Dexter MN area, super spot, all the corn was down there, kicked birds out last year here. Nothing at all
Hope for some nice weather to dry out the fields and get the combines back out. Even with that said, I have noticed there are less birds around in some areas I’ve hunted before. The rain last Thursday had me scouting more than hunting, and I found some fantastic cover adjacent to some large corn fields that should be good after they get harvested. Hoping to be out next Thursday.

Where are we going
West! I need to get down to Marshall soon too.
Heading out this weekend myself! sounds like the weather could make it an interesting trip.
New Ulm and LeSuer report, most of the corn is down, found some beutiful areas, lots of different cover, nothing at all.
I have seen more deer and wild turkeys than pheasants so far
I think I need to get Molly’s nose tuned up
She did get birdy a couple of times, I was ready, nothing

OK, you know the number
I’m ready
Keep at it Kirt. Could be worse-working. I had a similar experience last Thursday. I went to a prime piece of cover that was surrounded by corn the week before and was now picked and plowed. I walked the grass, cattails, and willows and I didn’t see anything. Even with the corn, I bagged one rooster and saw a few more birds the week before. I did however head to a WMA a couple miles away and saw 15-20 birds in an hour, so its tough to say if the birds are really down or just hiding.

Please don’t forget about me. I know someone who has a house in Ivanhoe. She would let us stay for nothing. Would have to give her an email and set it up though….
That WMA I found last year by Dexter, had allot of birds had birds last year, nothing this time.
Same thing down by Springfield????
I’m starting to feel guilty! Since the opening 5 days in SD, I’ve came back to shoot several limits here in southern dakota county. I am very blessed to hunt nothing but private land. Its getting harder and harder to find land to hunt.
Moreyes I saw you on the river a couple of mondays ago. I was in silver and plum ranger 1860.
