This is from last sunday. A very tired puppy. Had to work all day for them two birds. Must of flushed 50 hens before we got my two roosters. Hunted cattails near Ivanhoe mn. Alot of roosters out there just not too many on the state land.

Headed down to Windom to chase some more ditch chickens. Was a gorgeous day and we ended up shooting these four unlucky birds.

Well, it’s been a great season so far and all the talk about low bird numbers is not all true. I have seen a lot fewer birds this year than the past two years, but I have also found plenty of birds to hunt from the metro down to the Benson area . My pup, now two and half has really come into his own and is already the best upland dog I have ever owned. A lot of drive in this guy ! It’s been awhile since I have posted pictures so I will throw few together. I have had the chance to take two different guys out to shoot their first roosters ever this year and this is something fun to watch . They are the two holding just the one bird. The one guy is trying to get his two black labs off the couch and into hunting, I think his female is got it in her and just needs some time in the field. I have found that the windy/cold/snowy days have been the best days for me. The first snow picture is the day before deer hunting opener and the last is yesterdays first 3 bird december limit. All these birds have been shot on public land from the metro out to the benson and marshall areas. As much fun as it is to get out with friends, I really enjoy hunting with just me and the pup and the outdoors. The last photo is one pooped out pup sleeping in my daughters reading corner Hope everyone is doing well and putting the to em.

I am no photographer and just take the photos becasue my wife puts together a scrap book for me every year

    Enjoy and good hunting!

    Nice pics Guys.

I think my dog is ready to disown me.

Hopefully this weekend we will get out. We made it out on Saturday for about a half hour before the nasty stuff hit. It went from a gorgeous snowing, 20 degrees and a 10 mph SW wind to an WHITE OUT with 30mph Plus NW wind and dropped to 6 degrees in a matter of about 30 minutes.

I tried to go with the wind, but all the snow dust kicking up in my face made it impossible to see. Rufus did have a cool couple of Hen flushes and one point before the nasty stuff came. Worth the 4 hour round trip right there but it would have been nice to have a rooster flush, when I could see.

Left mn Friday after work took me 13 hours to get here (SW ND) Buts its been worth it. Birds everywhere in all the sheltered areas. They are wild as hell though. Just thought I add some pics I took with my phone. (not the best quality) This is the view I wake up to every morning.

here are a couple from my pups first season. in the first one it was her first time out hunting, she did well and really worked good. used her nose and quartered very well. the birds in the picture were flushed by my buddies year old lab but Maddie (my pup) was right there… just got eat to the punch by the older experienced dog! In the second picture, Maddie got her first flush but was muscled out for the retrieve by my buddies dog . of the three birds in the picture, she flushed two, and retrieved two (she won the second race to the bird and we were away from my buddy and his dog for the third Not too bad for a first year and 3-4 months old! I can’t wait until next year!

My New Pup Hunter’s first Pheasant Hunt. Tough to get a picture with him trying to jump out of my arms after the birds. Got to love that young pup instinct!

Here is a picture of the first hunt of the year this season (2010). It was a great day with both mhy buddy and I limiting out. This is Maddies second season and she is off to a great start. My buddy and I grilled up these two tonight with a side of wild rice and it was a great meal! Can’t wait to get out again!
