Well my cousin was suppose to come along today but backed out so I soloed it. The walking is nothing short of brutal with the drifted snow, I had to work pretty hard today to get my birds, we flushed alot of hens and I only saw 3 roosters today. we just got into our first spot and Lindy got real birdy down in a ditch, I looked down and I saw a set of tail feathers climb under a clump of cattails on the other side of the creek. Lindy kept wanting to go down the ditch but I stayed ready and kept calling her back until she got on the scent and locked up. I couldn’t believe how long the bird held, I had to kick snow down the hill to get it to flush The next few spots it was nothing but hens but alot of nice dog work The last spot we hit, we pushed a hen and a rooster out right away, the rooster of course flew a half a mile into a row of pine trees in a farmers yard another 200 yards and we flushed a wild rooster that I smacked 3 times, he had a leg hanging and feathers steaming, he set his wings and glided about 200 yards down the ditch. Lindy went after it but I called her back, she just kept wanting to go after it almost like she knew it was wounded. The bird rounded a corner so it wasn’t like she saw it go down but as we went she kept going way ahead, I kept calling her back but she had a mission so finally I let her go. She ran another 100 yards and pulled the bird right out of the grass like she knew exactly were it was . Dogs just amaze me, its like they have a sixth sense or something. hey I’m not complaining
