is there any truth to the number of rings/stripes on the tail feathers being a sign of how many yrs.old a bird is?

I don’t know about that but if you get a rooster with spurs that are a half inch or longer and start to curl you have a real troghy bird. It amazes me when I look at birds that people get mounted that are first year birds.Look at the spurs they will tell you its an old one.

Also if you take the rooster and hold it by its beek and the beek snaps that also indicates that it is a year or younger.

we got 2 this last weekend that had 36 and 34 bars on the tail feathers. The spurs on both birds were not that big.

yeah, definitely able to tell by spur length but i didn’t know if there was any truth to the amount of lines or not.
