is there any truth to the number of rings/stripes on the tail feathers being a sign of how many yrs.old a bird is?

I don’t know about that but if you get a rooster with spurs that are a half inch or longer and start to curl you have a real troghy bird. It amazes me when I look at birds that people get mounted that are first year birds.Look at the spurs they will tell you its an old one.

December 3, 2007 at 6:33 pm #16857we got 2 this last weekend that had 36 and 34 bars on the tail feathers. The spurs on both birds were not that big.
