Chasing Roosters in SD

Well, I made it back and it was a great time hunting with Stacie and her Family on her Dad’s family Farms. Man I can not even imagine how man birds will be around once the corn comes out. Overall about 50% of the corn was out. However, on the farms we hunted not a single cob has been harvested

We saw quite a few birds and I was within 20 yards of a 150″ class 5×5 that busted out of the CRP I was walking next to a food plot. That got me excited. I also unknowingly snuck up to another small buck that was bedded against a cornice edge that I ended up almost stepping on as it was about 2 feet below me on the edge.

I picked Stacie up at the Aberdeen Regional Airport about 11:30 on Friday night. We hunted hard Saturday just outside of Hoven. Saturday Stacie and I were joined by her Dad, two brothers, her cousin and her Mom joined us. It was great to see her family spending some awesome time together hunting. Sunday we did just a few strips around the farm house that only pushed out hens and a couple of roosters that happened to make it away.

I hope I can squeeze in another trip when all the corn is out. I think I will be surprised at just how many birds are actually out there.

The bulls were along the highway on the way home. Within 40 yards of the road and 10 from each other.

Well, its a steady dose of Deer hunting for me this whole next month. I will be in ND, SD, and MN Rifle and bow hunting in each. Just hoping to get a crack at a big boy in one of those places.

I won’t be around here much in the next few weeks, so everyone have a good one and I will pop in when I can! Be safe and have fun!

    So here is your answer!

See ya at the end of the month / begining of December.

Yes indeed Joel. Sounds like a plan. Sorry for not geting back to you, but it has been crazy around here. I might squeeze up to Mille alcs Friday for a brief 3-4 hour trip but I’m not sure yet. I have Stacie, my borther Rich annd my Buddy Torre and I making a stop on the way to deer camp. So not sure, but possibly Monday night the 5th of November might work for fishing?? How about you?

We were fortunate enough to all make it back for another SD hunt together as a family. We had a great weekend! Spending time with my family, we even got my mom out in the field with us!

Oh, and seeing the MONSTER buck get up 30 yards from us DID get me jacked up! If only I would’ve had my bow in hand…

Great pictures! Man that’s a nice elk too. I can’t wait until we’re done with harvest now so I can try to bag a few birds too. So who out shot who? The Husband or the wife?
